Length of Courses
Private piano lessons begin Tuesday, Sep 8, 2009 and continue until Monday, Jun 28, 2010. There is a two-week Winter Vacation from Saturday, Dec 19 to Sunday, Jan 3, and a one-week Spring Vacation from Saturday, Mar 6 to Sunday, Mar 14.
Private piano lessons will NOT be cancelled for statutory holidays.
Theory classes take place Mondays beginning Monday, Sep 14, 2009 and continue until Monday May 3, 2010. There will be no theory classes on Thanksgiving and Easter Monday.
Late Enrolment
Students may begin private piano lessons at any time during the year. Students in theory classes, however, must begin in September so as to receive the complete course.
Studio Group
Piano tuition includes Studio Group: one-hour group sessions in which students develop performance and listening skills by playing for one another in a fun, relaxed setting. This year Studio Groups will meet on a rotating schedule to be posted in September. Students may also be expected to attend additional classes prior to festival and examinations.
Ensemble
Students may be assigned a duet partner at the discretion of the teacher. Duets will be practiced with the teacher during lessons and with the partner at home. Partners will be required to perform together at Studio Group and concerts.
Concerts
Students are expected to perform in three concerts scheduled for Sundays at 2:00 PM: Dec 19, Feb 28 and Jun 20, subject to availability of venue.
Music Festival
The piano section of the Upper Island Music Festival is usually scheduled for the last week of February. The entry deadline is usually Jan 10.
Concerts
Conservatory Canada examinations are highly recommended. Theory examinations are scheduled for May 8, and piano examinations for June. The application deadline is Mar 5.
